Shoosmith Landfill owners ran away with the money and left their landfill as a staging ground for a future ecological disaster — leaving taxpayers holding the bag for $173M.
This should be investigated for criminal negligence.
I’m appreciative of Gov. Abigail Spanberger, Mike Jones for State Senate, and Del. Delores McQuinn’s efforts to call attention to this urgent environmental issue and fight for funding.
Neglected Chesterfield landfill needs $173 million to prevent environmental 'catastrophe' The owners of the Shoosmith Landfill have declared bankruptcy, claiming they cannot afford to clean up the millions of gallons of toxic wastewater collecting in the dump each year.

Just like that, my fourth convention is in the books. This year’s convention was an experience, to say the least, but it was great reconnecting with YDs from across the Commonwealth in Norfolk as we continue to do the work to pass the referendum this month and lead strong into the 2026 midterms.
To and other outgoing leaders — job well done. And to , our next VAYD President, and incoming leaders — we all look forward to what you will accomplish!

🚨🌊 Looking forward to kicking off convention this evening! I’m in Hampton Roads, so it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t release another *wave* of endorsements. I’m humbled to lead into convention with broad support.

Vote Yes, Virginia!
As states like Florida move to redraw congressional maps without voter approval, Virginians face the real risk of having their voices diminished in Washington. This amendment gives Virginians the power to protect fair representation before it’s too late for the Commonwealth.
We must level the playing field, so join several dozen Virginia leaders in supporting this amendment.

Yesterday, ABC 8News - WRIC covered the State Crime Commission’s report on automated license plate readers.
Not only did one-third of agencies outright not respond, but several agencies self-reported noncompliance with the 2025 ALPR law. We know from the report that there are some agencies still sharing information out-of-state and some still sharing information with the federal government.
There is bipartisan concern for the risk that unchecked AI surveillance poses, especially for our most vulnerable groups. VSCC is exempt from Virginia FOIA, so specific data on which agencies or localities are noncompliant with the 2025 statute is unknown. The Commission did, however, share a blank copy of the survey it put out to agencies with me. → https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Lr7QsDCgAfWUrNJJc5rjVOyaRm61aMcw/view

I’m excited to announce that I’m running for Treasurer of the Virginia Young Democrats.
VAYD has always been at its strongest when we invest in our members, operate with accountability, and build frameworks that set every chapter up to succeed. I’m running because I believe we can continue strengthening our financial foundation, expanding our fundraising capacity, and ensuring our resources match the ambition of our movement.
As VAYD’s Deputy Political Director, a former VAYD Black Caucus Chair, and a former board member for the Chesterfield Young Democrats, Metro Richmond Area Young Democrats, and Charlottesville Area Young Democrats, I understand what it takes to build statewide infrastructure and prepare for electoral victories. From Blacksburg to Chesterfield and beyond, I’m ready to help write the next chapter of VAYD’s future — together.
I hope Young Democrats from across the Commonwealth will join VAYD leaders in supporting me at convention in Norfolk next month. 🔰💙🗳️
