Heat Wave Announcement & Reminder

The summer heat is here, and with temperatures climbing, the Chesterfield Police Department wants to remind everyone just how dangerous a parked vehicle can become. It only takes a few minutes for the temperature inside a vehicle to reach life-threatening levels.

A reminder of Chesterfield City Ordinance:

It is unlawful to leave a child unattended in a standing, parked, or locked motor vehicle.
It is unlawful to leave an animal in a parked vehicle when conditions could result in substantial harm.

Our officers don't want to break your window—but if a child or pet appears to be in danger, they are authorized to use the force reasonably necessary to remove them and protect their health, welfare, and safety.

Please don't assume cracked windows, shade, or "just a minute" will keep the vehicle safe. They won't.

If you see a child or pet showing signs of distress inside a parked vehicle, call 911 immediately. A simple phone call could save a life.
