The month of July shines awareness on Hepatitis. Did you know?
Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver, most commonly caused by a viral infection. There are five main hepatitis viruses, referred to as types A, B, C, D and E. These five types are of greatest concern because of the burden of illness and death they cause and the potential for outbreaks and epidemic spread.
-Hepatitis is the world’s deadliest communicable disease, cutting 1.34 million lives short each year.
-There are nearly 2 million new cases of hepatitis every single year.
-More than 287 million people are living with hepatitis B or C. Most don’t even know.
-Hepatitis is the leading cause of liver cancer.
