WRITING UPDATE: DAY 844

Phase: Editing Romantasy

Morale: 5/10 feeling good about my progress but also a little impatient with myself for going slow 🐢

Productivity: 5/10 Working hard but also having to backtrack 🐌

Writing Tip: As a writer it’s important not to get hung up on the speed you work at. As long as you are sitting down and actually writing, you’re doing the right thing. Publishing is a notoriously slow process anyway.
(Can you tell I’m saying this to remind myself?)

WRITING UPDATE: DAY 812

Phase: Editing Romantasy

Morale: 9/10 the sun is magical I swear ☀️

Productivity: 6/10 Steady progress with a few stand out moments that make me pat myself on the back 👏

Writing Tip: Every bestselling author has this in common—THEY DIDN’T QUIT. So if you wanna end up on that list with them, you can’t either.

I hate to break it to you, but plot ≠ story.

If you want your readers to be invested, you can’t just have your characters simply follow the plot, you have to build your plot around your character’s arc.

That means giving them a misbelief, a wound, a goal, and most importantly, a LESSON.

If your character is doing a bunch of cool sh*t with no internal conflict (and therefore no growth) your readers will still be bored 🥱

So how do you fix this? Decide what your character will learn FIRST and use your plot as a tool to lead your character to that lesson AFTER. In other words, have your plot follow your character instead of the other way around.

If you wanna stop aimlessly walking in circles with your story, download my FREE character sheet by commenting CHARACTERARC below. And don’t forget to follow for more writing tips!
