Hot take:

The dog training industry has a bigger human behavior problem than a dog behavior problem.

Our dogs aren’t struggling because they’re stubborn, dominant, manipulative, or trying to “be the boss.”

They’re struggling because they’re confused, overwhelmed, underprepared, or simply repeating behaviors that have worked for them in the past.

The best way to support them is with kindness, patience, and clarity.

Frustration is a normal human emotion, and dog training can be incredibly hard. But when we let our egos, expectations, or emotions take over, we often become reactive ourselves—and that rarely helps our dogs move forward.

Progress starts when we stop asking, “How do I stop this behavior?” and start asking, “What is my dog trying to tell me?”

The dogs are often doing the best they can with the information they have. The question is: are we?

The humans behind the dogs đŸ¶đŸ‘‡

It’s been awhile since we officially introduced the Happy Dogs crew, making the magic happen every day.

Each week for the next month we will be re-introducing our team, starting off with the reason it all exists

Piper built this business from the ground up with a simple belief: training should feel good—for dogs and their people. She’s obsessed with behavior, lives for the challenge of a tricky training case and is probably either teaching agility classes, working a behavior case, or out adventuring with dogs somewhere in the mountains. She loves high drive, working dogs, and weird corky behavior making Border Collies her personal breed of choice.

Piper takes in person training cases in Crested Butte, Colorado, and works online with clients all over the world.
