Discover a new secret trail to explore!
Are you looking for that new secret spot to explore, away from the crowds of city greenways? Whether you want to hike, bike or just enjoy some quiet time in nature, our region is full of hidden gems just waiting for you to experience them. Here are three of our favorite trails that you won’t want to overlook!
Paul’s Peninsula at Lake Whelchel Trail – Gaffney, SC
As the newest section of this trail, this 2.25-mile extension is still relatively unknown, giving it a peaceful and reverent feel as you wind your way along the lake edge, following the footsteps of Revolutionary War patriot militiamen.
Cane Creek Park Trail – Union County, NC
This 1.6-mile trail winds around 5 acres of prairie habitat that is permanently protected by Catawba Lands Conservancy, where endangered Schweinitz sunflowers can sometimes be seen in early fall.
Girl Scouts Hornets’ Nest Council Trail – Statesville, NC
This 2-mile natural surface trail, located on the Girl Scouts' Oak Springs Campus, is a beautiful place to hike or mountain bike. The trail weaves through a 358-acre preserve protected by the Conservancy and designated as a NC State Significant Natural Heritage Site.
Don’t forget that now through June 30 our Board of Directors is matching all gifts, up to $45,000. Make your gift today to help ensure places like these remain for future generations at https://catawbalands.org/donate
