The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has restored a key rule that helps to promote fair housing practices and reduce discrimination in housing. The discriminatory effects standard, originally enacted in 2013, clarifies the legal standards for proving discrimination in housing and addresses practices that may have a disproportionate impact on certain groups of people. With the restoration of this rule, recipients of federal housing funds will be required to actively work to identify and address discriminatory effects in their housing practices.
