Housing is about more than homes. It’s about the kinds of places where people know their neighbors, children are safe, beauty is shared, creation is cared for, and everyone has the opportunity to belong and flourish.

That’s the vision behind the Faith’s Pavilion statement, developed in anticipation of the World Urban Forum themed “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities.” Sharing the conviction that every person possesses sacred and inherent dignity and deserves access to safe, secure, and affordable housing, we’re excited to join Habitat for Humanity, Micah Global, Parish Collective, and others as an organizational signatory.

The statement calls for housing that advances intentional placemaking, human-scale development, walkability, inclusion, beauty, resilience, cultural rootedness, and ecological sustainability, fostering places where people and the rest of nature can flourish together.

It also reminds us that this kind of homemaking cannot be accomplished by any one sector alone. It invites public institutions, businesses, financial partners, philanthropists, and faith communities to work together, drawing on the unique gifts each brings—from land and patient capital to trusted relationships, volunteer networks, and long-term presence.

This vision captures much of what Kinship Plot is working toward here in Charlotte.

We invite you to read the statement and imagine with us. What resonates? What questions does it raise? Where do you see opportunities for partnership? We would love to hear your thoughts. Big visions become reality when they are shared.

Kinship Plot has been such a blessing to me this summer. I have learned so much about identifying plants in the garden, and in other places I have visited. Not only is there so much to learn, but there’s also strong conversation where our ideas, experiences, and thoughts are brought to the table.

I have enjoyed being surrounded by a space that truly feels comforting and inspiring. As I have been working the last few weeks, I like to share with my family, whether it be trying flowers, or eating vegetables together. I wanted to share a snippet of the result of working with the Kinship Plot. We pick and prepare everything with so much thought, and in the end, we get to enjoy wonderful snacks like pickle jars! This is something I will truly cherish as it has brought me closer to this community and my own family. I cannot wait to continue learning more along this journey.

Last night we gathered at the Government Center to celebrate the completion of a nine-month journey in the Faith-Based Development Initiative cohort, part of the City of Charlotte’s Faith in Housing initiative.

We shared the vision and progress of the housing project taking shape with The Grove Church and heard presentations from the other 11 faith groups, all working to develop housing and community infrastructure on their land. There were a few jokes about us being the “12 disciples of Charlotte,” chuckle chuckle…

Jokes aside, it was an inspiring and hopeful night—seeing faith communities step into practical solutions and imagine transformations of their land that will help strengthen Charlotte’s housing continuum in tangible ways.

Thank you to Enterprise Community Partners and the City of Charlotte for making this opportunity possible and for continuing to walk with us until these projects are complete!
