We go at some point during the week, almost yearly.

Good news for those making the trip around the country (and world) for the Biggest Week in American Birding. It begins on Friday (May 8th) and runs through May 17th. The weather pattern lately has not been great for the spring migration. We will get a couple of good days to start off next week and then the cold northerly winds and rain make a return most of next week. The festival may start with a couple of lower days than normal. However, the weather pattern appears that it will flip during the Biggest Week and that should create a massive surge!

The birds that have been held back with unfavorable winds will finally get a great pattern. That comes at peak migration times already. So we have all 3 big things lining up here...a pattern that will keep migration numbers below normal to start off May, a favorable pattern developing during the festival week, on top of the historical peak for migration anyways. There are some hints of a turn around coming around Mother's Day, but the big pattern flip is expected closer to May 12th or 13th and sticking around through that week. So the second half of the Biggest Week has the potential of bringing big bird surges based on the very early look at the weather pattern. More updates ahead.
