I was so happy to see this sweet patient today as the first patient on the first day at my new practice, Russell Facial Plastic Surgery! Three weeks ago she had large hole in her lip from a nasty basal cell skin cancer removal (swipe left to see it), which I repaired with a V-Y flap, one of my favorites. It was so good to see her smiling again, and she was just a ray of sunshine to kick off the new practice. Check out the link to the new site in my bio!

I was thrilled to see this patient today, 9 months after I repaired a large defect in his nose from a skin cancer removal. This location of the defect near the edge of the nostril can easily lead to disfiguring retraction of the nostril as the area heals. To prevent that retraction, I took cartilage from his ear, and placed it along the nostril margin to support that area. I then performed a bilobed flap that shifted skin from higher on the nose to cover the defect. With this combination of techniques, he has healed well, and is pleased that no one has noticed that anything happened to his nose!

I am thankful that I got to see this patient of mine today, 6 months after her nasal reconstruction. She was understandably concerned about how her nose would look after seeing the defect from the skin cancer she had removed from her nose. I surgically took skin from her cheek and used it to fill the hole from the cancer removal. Now, 6 months later, she is thrilled with the outcome, and none of her friends and colleagues can tell anything happened!

I recently saw this wonderful patient of mine about 8 months after I performed her cheek reconstruction. I remember she was worried that she would never look normal again after seeing the hole in her face after the skin cancer had been removed. I reassured her then that she was going to look normal again, and sure enough, it's almost impossible to tell now that anything had happened!

This patient developed a skin cancer at a young age and in a difficult spot--on her eyelid. She was very concerned about her eyelid being permanently disfigured from the removal of the skin cancer when she first consulted with me. While I can never absolutely guarantee an outcome, I always do my best to restore normal form and function for my patients. I just saw her today at 2 months after I performed her eyelid reconstruction, and she is so happy with the results. Being able to help patients in this way is one of the reasons I love what I do!

I was thrilled to see this lovely patient and her sweet family today, 8 months after her rhinoplasty and chin augmentation. I had not seen her since her early post-op, since she has been studying abroad, so I was looking forward to seeing her progress. My surgical goals were to reduce the size and projection of her nose, while also elongating the lower third of her face with a chin implant, thereby harmonizing her nose and chin with the rest of her facial features. She loves her new nose and chin, and her mother is so pleased that everything looks natural--she still looks like herself, just improved!

It was great to see this wonderful patient 3 months after I reconstructed her nose and cheek. She had an extensive basal cell cancer at the edge of the nose that required removal of a significant portion of her nose and cheek by her dermatologist to get clear margins. I used the adjacent skin and soft tissue from the cheek, as well as cartilage from her ear, to reconstruct the defect, placing the scars in the natural creases as much as possible, so that they hide better. She is very happy with how it has turned out!

Turning back the clock! This patient is 6 weeks out from her deep plane facelift, necklift, and brow lift. She has a little bit of swelling under the chin that will resolve over the next few weeks, but she still looks amazing already. You can clearly see the power of the deep plane technique for restoring volume and youth to her face. The other important thing is that you do not see tightness or "wind-tunnel" effect with the deep plane facelift, as you often see with the more common SMAS facelift techniques. She is loving her results, and so do I!
