Aerial Fit
Crucifix Arabesque was probably around long before we discovered it. Jordan found this shape on her own because it is a direct translation of a skill she does on silks and sling all the time. We then added it to our curriculum and even use it as an entrance to other skills.
Crucifix Arabesque is an elegant and familiar shape. It can be done on all of the apparatuses. It is another great example of creating support and control through effort. We also love having students experiment with foot placement and foot rotation. It can be a really valuable learning experience, not just to find the perfect sweet spot, but to also play with the less comfortable options and discuss why they aren’t as comfortable.

There are many different variations of Flag on Aerial Hoop. The most minimal version we simply call Basic Flag. There is just one hand on the spanset and one on the hoop, with no other supports or points of contact.
The minimalism of this variation of flag actually makes it quite challenging, so we always first work on it with the hoop close to the ground. Starting on a low hoop with the feet on the floor makes the skill so much more accessible and gives students with weaker grips a place to build strength over time.
