Big THANKS to the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation for funding our 2026 grant! “You’ve Been Booked” engaged students across Northside Elementary with a joyful reading experience that got kids TALKING about books being read aloud and sharing their excitement about their favorite across the school and voting on it to determine which book becomes this year’s NC Children’s Book award winner. Spoiler alert: 100 Mighty Dragons All Named Broccoli took the most votes at NES. Time will tell how our votes measure up against others across the state. In addition to the fun of sharing stories aloud across classrooms, students also were able to create a button to advertise their favorite to others across the school. These backpack book buttons kept literacy front and center and started many a conversation around books and stories. We can’t wait to continue this program next year with new titles at the forefront!
