Thinking about renting out your home, guest house, casita, or vacation property on Airbnb or VRBO?

Make sure your insurance is set up correctly first.

Short-term rentals are not always treated the same as a normal owner-occupied home or long-term rental property.

A standard homeowners policy may not fit if:

* Guests are staying in the home
* You rent the property regularly
* You rent only part of the home
* The property is used as a vacation rental
* You have frequent turnover
* You need liability coverage for paying guests

Even if the platform provides some protection, that does not mean your personal homeowners policy is automatically okay with short-term rental activity.

Before you list the property, review your policy and carrier rules.
