Rise Up Project

A wonderful mother at our school is a freelance writer for several publications. She reached out to me a while back asking permission to write a story about the Rise Up Project and how the performance with the American Authors came about. I of course said that would be fine. Last night she sent me the final story that she plans to pitch to the magazines that she writes for. It is admittedly extremely awkward for me to read something about myself...but I think she did a great job telling the story. I am extremely flattered and humbled at her desire to spread the word about something I feel so strongly about. You can see the story on her blog here if you'd like to read it... http://soakinitin.wordpress.com/2014/05/25/most-awesome-music-teacher-ever-3/
Most Awesome Music Teacher. EVER. You’re riding along in your car on your morning to commute to work, listening to the radio and sipping your coffee, and thinking about what your day has in store for you—work, exercise, obligations...
Tonight I will be interviewing the American Authors about their performance with us last December. The interview footage will be included in this year's Rise Up Project DVD. I think it would be awesome for the kids to be able to go back and hear about the experience from the band's perspective. I'd also like to talk with them about their feelings on the importance of music in schools and maybe share any experiences they had as a child where their music teachers inspired them to keep trying, etc. What else would you like to know? Any questions you would like me to ask??

I remember not so many moons ago when my girls were young and it wasn't uncommon that a day would start off with screaming and tears (can you say Terrible Twos?). That generally meant it was going to be a very long day, lol. Most of you parents can probably relate to that chapter of parenthood. :) Well, today my day started with screaming and tears but for a much different reason. I woke up to see this on our Kickstarter campaign. Screaming, clapping, dancing, and tears of joy! I am beside myself happy....WE ARE DOING THIS! You guys are INCREDIBLE!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! 13 more days and under $1000 to go. We've got this! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/riseupproject/rise-up-project
