Health passports are documents that individuals with Down syndrome and their families can fill out to share information with healthcare professionals. Health passports can include:
🗣 how a person communicates,
😧 signs that they are in pain or stressed,
😌 what they do to calm down,
👍 likes/dislikes,
➕ and more

These documents can be particularly helpful if an individual goes to the hospital and interacts with healthcare professionals who may not know them. There are some versions that have been developed specifically for people with Down syndrome or other intellectual and developmental disabilities. See the link below to access free templates.

💡 Spotlight on our resources on social skills for the workplace 💡

Many people with Down syndrome are excellent employees. Once they learn how to do the tasks to which they are assigned, they usually complete them with precision and consistency. However, if they do not understand the social skills required for their work environment, they may face challenges. Research and experience have demonstrated that inadequate social skills is one of the main reasons that people with Down syndrome lose their jobs.

Our Resource Library has a recording of a webinar called "Mastering Social Skills for Success in the Workplace." During the webinar, Katie Frank, PhD, OTR/L, and Abby Rowley, LCSW, provided a variety of strategies and resources to teach important social skills such as professional behaviors, appropriate conversation topics, boundaries, and more.
