Thank you for offering so consistently your heartfelt words to expand knowledge of the adoptee experience • reposted. - I’m so thankful to for publishing my letter to adoptive parents, specifically those in Christian spaces who unknowingly hurt adoptees with their oversharing, and then lament when these adoptees become struggling adolescents or adults and haven’t “turned to God.” Here are a few excerpts. This was written from a place of deep pain over an accumulation of seeing too much oversharing in my social media feed, knowing all too well the emotional and spiritual damage taking place. My wish is for adoptee stories to be handled with the care and sensitivity they deserve, and for adoptive parents to heed their own advice to “turn to God” (and private support groups and resources led by adoptee educators) when an adoptee is struggling, not to the masses on social media who do not understand the many nuances involved.
