We are hearing about a lot of rattlesnake bites this summer. Rattlesnake envenomation is excruciatingly painful and can be life threatening, it is not something any dog should have to endure without specialist veterinary care.

HOW TO BE PREPARED:

1)Be aware of your surroundings on your hikes and keep an eye on your pups at all times.

2)Know the snakebite protocols for pets and for humans.

3)Keep a list of local 24/7 vet hospitals in your area who carry antivenin.

4) Invest in rattlesnake avoidance training for your dogs.

5)Have money set aside for snakebite emergencies, antivenin is very expensive and some dogs need multiple vials. Please invest in pet insurance if you cannot afford to spend several thousand on a snakebite emergency.

6)Join this group. They are the leading veterinary and medical experts in the USA on snakebite treatment protocols for pets and humans. ABOUT ZELDA:

🐾Super smart, eager to please and is a very quick learner. She knows the commands "sit, stay, lay down, kennel, shake, spin, no". She will thrive with an active family who understands the breed and appreciates their goofy, affectionate and high energy personalities.

🐾LOVES hikes, sniffaris, playing fetch and exploring the great outdoors with her family. She enjoys car rides and wants to be part of her family's adventures. She must have the opportunity to run off leash several times a week once her recall training is solid.

🐾She mixes well with two male GSPs in her foster home and shares attention nicely, patiently waiting her turn at mealtimes. Since she is confident, she will correct other dogs if they are too pushy. She would do best with an experienced GSP owner who can provide exercise, boundaries and structure and enjoys keeping their dogs' brains busy too!

🐾A total velcro GSP, she loves being near her people. She may whine if she feels she needs more exercise or mental stimulation, but once these needs have been fulfilled, she is a couch potato and is happiest curled up next to you. After she warms up to new people, she is very loyal and affectionate.

🐾She gets along well with other dogs and enjoys playtime but can be rough and mouthy so she needs a buddy who enjoys her enthusiastic play style.

🐾She sleeps happily on a dog bed, is crate trained and will settle in her kennel with no issues.

🐾Not an escape artist, has excellent recall in a securely fenced yard. Her foster family is working on recall training so that she can enjoy running off leash with her new family.

🐾An excellent watchdog, she will alert bark at noises and passersby. She declares war on any squirrels who dare to trespass on her property.

😻Cat approved! 😻She has lived with several cats and doesn't pay any attention to them.

🐾She has not been formally tested around children but has done well around small humans in public settings.
