Did you see 👀
Ava Parsons from Linn-Mar High School is a current WLC intern with NAMI of Linn County. She had the opportunity to join her internship host on KCRG's Expert of the Day segment. She did an outstanding job representing both herself, the program and the importance of reducing the stigma around mental health.
Ava Parsons highlighted how the NAMI CHANGE Makers initiative is partnering with Linn-Mar High School's Mental Health Matters club to connect students with education, volunteer opportunities, and local and national mental health resources.
We love to see our students making a difference!

From the classroom to Iowa's highways!
This summer, one of our high school students is gaining hands-on experience through a Civil Engineering Assistant Internship with Cedar County Secondary Roads.
As part of the internship, the student is surveying no-passing zones on county highways to help prepare for Iowa's new law increasing the speed limit on many highways from 55 mph to 60 mph. Their work is helping ensure road markings and traffic control measures remain safe and accurate as the changes are implemented.
This internship is giving the student valuable experience in civil engineering, surveying, transportation infrastructure, and public service while making a meaningful contribution to the local community.
Experiences like this demonstrate the power of work-based learning—students aren't just exploring careers; they're building technical skills, solving real-world problems, and making an impact today.
A huge thank you to Cedar County Secondary Roads for investing in the next generation of Iowa's workforce!

Event Planning & Marketing Day with Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival
"I learned that it takes a lot of time to plan the event and get all of the task list done. We got to make door signs, yards signs, and social media posts. I like that our job shadow was hands on." - Kiera Williams, Kennedy High School
