Fun facts about the planet: Almost 60% of all species live in the soil, making land Earth's most biodiverse habitat. Healthy soil stores mass amounts of Carbon. 🍃 Drylands are 3rd of the global biodiversity hotspots and provide critical migration points for birds. 🦆 Deserts cover more than 1/5th of Earth's land area and are on every continent. 🏜 The Sahara is the largest hot desert, spanning 9.4 million square kilometers. It's home to 500 plant species, 70 mammal species, 100 reptile species, 90 avian species, and several arthropods (spiders/scorpions). 🦂 31% of Earth is covered in Forests but only found in Brazil, Canada, China, The Russian Federation, and the U.S. 🌲 Home to half the world's land-based species of animals, plants, and insects. 🪲 28,000 plant species are currently recorded as being of medicinal use and are found in the Forests ecosystems. Penicillin comes from small fungus in the soil. 🦠 1.4 billion livelihoods worldwide are reliant on access to fresh water. Climate change is dangerously affecting that supply. 💧 Every year, 24 billon tons of priceless topsoil are washed/blown away worldwide due to overcultivated, overgrazed, and deforestation. 🪵 35% of the world's total crop produce depends on pollinators like bees. Due to pesticide use, invasive species, diseases, and climate change we are losing them. 🐝 World Environment Day was organized by the United Nations Environment Program. The United Nations states if population growth and consumption continue at this rate, we will need 3 planets like Earth by 2050! 🌱

Some of the most crystal-filled treasures on Earth start out looking like ordinary dusty rocks sitting on the ground. That’s part of what makes finding one so addictive for rockhounds.

The “lighter than expected” clue surprises a lot of people too — many geodes are hollow inside, which can make them feel oddly light for their size.
