🎥 .j.a and I rolled out of Nashville to explore the westward highways with my guitar, his camera, and a hard drive filling up with song footage.

But before that, 🎸 hosted us for a session in Nashville.

Duncan's PhD diploma in Physics from UC Santa Cruz hangs on his bathroom wall, from March. His first act as a Doctor was to leave it all behind and move to Nashville to make music. "It seemed like a more direct line to beauty," he said.

Shortly thereafter we met at a show, and then he was playing pedal steel on these songs, raising a gutteral clang and a glittering curve through their lonesome highways. He also recorded and produced the audio for this session.

This song is called Ti i i ime, a REM-state folk song that lives between the tumbledown shack of mortality and the river of dreams. Perhaps it's fetching water from the river or carrying the thirsty out of the shack. Maybe it's just a patch of grass inbetween.
