🚨 Why Spaying Saves Lives 🚨

This is our 8th pyometra case in just TWO weeks.
Today’s uterus alone weighed 4 pounds.

Pyometra is a life-threatening uterine infection that occurs in unspayed female dogs, often weeks to months after a heat cycle. Hormonal changes cause the uterus to thicken and fill with infected fluid and pus. Bacteria can rapidly multiply, and the uterus can become massively enlarged—or even rupture.

If not treated immediately, pyometra can lead to:
• Sepsis (systemic infection)
• Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC)
• Kidney failure
• Uterine rupture
• Shock
• Death

Many dogs don’t show obvious signs until they are critically ill. Some never have vaginal discharge (“closed pyometra”), making it even more dangerous and harder to detect.

🚑 Emergency surgery is the ONLY cure.
These dogs are often unstable, require intensive care, IV fluids, antibiotics, blood products, and have a significantly higher surgical and anesthetic risk than a routine spay.

💔 Pyometra is 100% preventable.

Spaying is not just about preventing puppies—it prevents a medical emergency that can cost thousands of dollars and take a life in a matter of hours.

If your dog is not spayed, please talk to your veterinarian. Waiting can mean the difference between a routine procedure and a fight for survival.

Spay early. Spay safely. Spay to save her life.
