It's . 🔧 Your Yamaha outboard's lower unit works hard to propel your boat through the water, but it needs some TLC to stay in top shape. Here's how to maintain its health.

⚙️ The gears inside your lower unit need proper lubrication to prevent wear and tear. Use marine lubricant for optimal protection, especially in underwater conditions
⚙️ Before each outing, visually inspect the lower unit for damage. Check for debris wrapped around the propeller shaft, which can damage seals and allow water inside
⚙️ Every 50 hours, inspect the color of the lower unit lubricant. Milky color indicates water contamination, which may require seal replacement
⚙️ Avoid running your outboard right before checking the lubricant to prevent air bubbles that mimic water contamination
⚙️ Replace the lubricant after the first 20 hours for a new outboard, then every 100 hours. If it's milky, smells burnt, or looks off, change it regardless of hours
