1 Pet.3:1-12 “Submission in Marriage & To One Another”

“Submission In Marriage:" Wives (v.1-6), Husbands (v.7). Heterosexual relationship, one biological male and female just as God intended it (Gen.2:24-25).

1 Pet.3:1—Likewise (same manner of) (1 Pet.2:13, 18).

Submission Of Wives Involves Four Things (v.1-6). #1—Involves Your Own Husband (1 Pet.3:5; Col.3:18; Titus 2:5; Eph.5:22). Why? Hierarchy (Eph.5:22-24; 1 Cor.14:40)

Hierarchy and Equality Are Not Exclusive. Men & Women Are Equal (Gal.3:28).

Headship Is Not Dictatorship But Is Servant Leadership. Men Are Expected To Lead The Family (God Ordained).

The Man Has More Accountability with God in the Marriage Relationship.

Submission Of Wives Involves #2 Your Conduct or Manner of Life (v.1-2). If, chaste conduct, without a word. It’s What You Do, Not What You Say.

Tendency To Shift the Burden. We Should Step Out in Faith. Pray “Change Me to Make Me A Better Spouse.”

Words Can Get Preachy, Actions Show Reality. Words Can Create Division, Loving Actions Build Trust.

Submission Of Wives Involves #3 Your Spirit (v.3-4). Outward Appearance vs. Inward Beauty (Attitudes, Inner Spirit; Matt.5:5, 11:29, 21:5). Turn Hearts, Not Heads.

Submission Of Wives Involves #4 Your Example (v.5-6). Gentle, Quiet Spirit, Inward Adornment. Sarah (Gen.12:2,13,17;18:12). Fear & Hope in God Allowed Them to Submit & Not Fear (Eph.1:11).

1 Pet.3:7—Likewise (same manner of; 1 Pet.2:13,18; 3:1) (Eph.5:21). Husbands Submit to Their Wives’ Desires, Wants, Needs, Feelings.

Husband’s Submission to Their Wives Involves #1 Understanding (v.7). Knowledge, Perception. Husbands Should Know, Comprehend Their Wife’s Feelings, Desires, Wants.

Husbands—Be Considerate, Adjust Your Lives to Serve Your Wife (Phi.2:3-5a).

Husband’s Submission to Their Wives Involves #2 Honor (v.7). Priceless, Precious, Valuable. Not Abusing Authority, But Consideration & Respect (Servant Leader).

Weaker Vessel—Some Are Physically, More Likely Spiritually (But More Vulnerable to Our Enemy; Gen.3:5).

Husband’s Submission to Their Wives Involves #3 We Are Heirs Together (v.7). Gal.3:28-29; Titus 3:7.

Husband’s Submission to Their Wives Involves #4 Husband’s Prayers (v.7). Be reconciled (Matt.5:23-24).

Husbands Love Your Wives Even If… Wives Submit to The Lord even if…. Examine Your Relationship with Jesus & Examine Your Heart.

We Will All Stand Individually Before The Lord to Give an Account.

Husbands Look at Your Own Life—Wife Is a Reflection of You (1 Cor.11:7).

For Married Christian Couples—It Is Mutual Submission (Eph.5:21; Phi.2:3-5a; Rom.12:10; Gal.5:13,15)

Submission To One Another—5 Things (1 Pet.3:8-12). Unified Spirit Spreading the Gospel (Rom.12:16a, 15:5; Phi.1:27, 2:2).

#1 Submission to One Another—Compassion for One Another (v.8). Rom.12:15, 15:5; 1 Cor.12:26; Heb.4:15.

#2 Submission to One Another—Love One Another as Brothers (v.8). 1 Thess.4:9-10.

#3 Submission to One Another—Tenderhearted Toward One Another (v.8).

#4 Submission to One Another—Courteous Toward One Another (v.8). Eph.4:1-2.

#5 Submission to One Another—Blessing One Another (v.9). Matt.5:39-44; Heb.12:17; 1 Pet.1:4, 2:23; Col.4:6.

Ps.34:12-16, 37:27 (Quoted In 1 Pet.3:10-12) Support 1 Pet.3:8-9. Good Days, Refrain the Tongue (Jas.3:3-12).

Turn From Evil, Do Good (v.11). 1 Pet.2:12,14-15,20)

Seak Peace, Pursue It (v.11). Matt.5:9, 39. An Active Role.

The Lord’s Eyes Are on The Righteous (v.12). He Watches Over His People.
