• Prepare an escape route from your home and neighborhood, and plan an emergency meeting place for family in case you are separated

• Shut off any natural gas, propane or fuel oil supplies at the source

• Keep your yard and gutters free of pine needles, leaves and other flammable debris

• Follow your local authority’s evacuation procedures and safety recommendations

• Maintain a "fire watch” for several hours after the fire

• Re-check for smoke and sparks throughout the house
