Happy Autumn, ya'll!! What a better time than after a long, busy summer, to slow down, cozy up and treat yourself to a massage?

Or anything warm and nourishing for that matter!

I realized today, while riding through the corridors of golden Aspen trees, feeling the cool air and warm sun simultaneously on my skin that, whatever this life is, be it a construct of our collective imagination or a random, chaotic miracle, I am SO SO grateful to be living it. I am grateful for this journey. Grateful for the courage it takes to enter into healing spaces with myself and with others- for the magical unveilings of the power, light and wisdom that we all share. I am grateful to the temporary forgetting and to the process of remembering. Thank you, friends, community members, clients, sisters, brothers, fellow body workers, for showing up, being you, and allowing me to remember. With Love- Brittany

Plant Love and watch it grow 🫑🍅🌽🥕🥒

I am SO grateful to have been a member of the Good Seed Community Garden this year. I spent a good part of my twenties traveling and working/ volunteering on farms and, inspired, helped to found the first community garden in my hometown ( New Fairfield, CT- where's that?!?!?!) which is still in operation today.

Starting the gardening journey can be daunting. Prepping the bed; "is the soil right?!" Starting from seed or transplanting starts. The money, the time; "is there a freeze coming?!?!" I spent my entire May going twice a day to cover and uncover ONE tomato plant that I eventually had to retire because she was way too stunted!

But then, there is the moment that you become an artist of your own nourishment. A mother. A caregiver. A lover. You speak and sing to your plants and tell them they are doing great. You pull thistle and knot w**d and make room for their little roots to grow strong. You stake them and prune them and water at sunrise and sunset, careful not to spray the tomato leaves. You worry... well, at least I worry. Will they grow, are they happy, am I terrible at this, was it all for nothing?

Then, one day, you look around on a summer's eve, as the air is finally cooling, and you might as well be in the most beautiful place on earth. Bees and butterflies hover and flutter, birds chirp and dash, flowers are vibrant in the dim light. Everything is green and fruiting and thriving. Other gardeners give you a smile and a wave as they crouch down over their crop. There is an energy, a buzz you realize could be nothing other than the sound of life itself. Heart full, you tell your plants goodnight.

Thank you Carbondale, thank you Sopris, thank you Rocky Mountains. Thank you hard-working, dedicated, inclusive, caring community.

There are a million metaphors I could make for the ways that gardening is like life..... but what I will say, is that what we reap is what we sow..... what we plant is what will grow.

Plant love today. Grow Love.

Nourish your vessel!

Something that resonated recently for me is that each day we are preparing our vessel for our own personal, future evolution. When the time comes to step into your power or connect more purely with source, will your vessel ( body, lol) be ready? To put it more simply, the choices we make today, influence and ready us for our tomorrows.

So, how are you choosing to honor the body that carries you through this life? Your body that is made up of a million ( a billion!) little miracles and infinite universal energy. It is SO hard sometimes to make the choices that we know are aligned with our values or that we know will make us feel better.

That being said, if the goal seems too big, make the first step smaller.

My first step was to start making my own little sprouts. Sprouts are baby plants, harvested just a few days after growth begins. They are much more rich in nutrients than their full- grown versions.

All you will need is:

Seed mix, jars, strainer lids for your jars.

My seed mix is made up of alfalfa, broccoli, radish and clover.

I think I spent $20 on all of the materials and I will have sprouts for at least 6 months. The batch I made ( see pics) was only three tablespoons of seed mix!

Benefits:

pre-biotic
lower blood sugar
lower cholesterol

Contain:

calcium, magnesium, potassium, folate, beta-carotene

They are also fun and crunchy and taste delicious!

CAUTION: because sprouts are grown in a moist environment, they may become contaminated with some bacteria. Pregnant woman should avid eating sprouts ( or at least consult with someone who is not me before doing so! )

HOW TO!

1) Sterilize your jar
2) cover 2-3 tablespoons of seed mix with filtered water and soak for 12 hours
3) strain well through the strainer lid, shaking out all excess water. Try then to spread the seeds evenly around the walls of the jar
4) set jar in a bowl at an angle to let the water keep draining
5) Rinse the seeds/ sprouts and repeat steps 3/4, two times a day (am/pm) for 4-5 days.

When your sprouts have little green leaves on them, they are ready to eat!

STORAGE: Make sure your sprouts are DRY before storing them in an airtight container in the fridge

Enjoy!!!!

Just for today, I do not worry
Just for today, I observe and release my anger
Just for today, I am honest with myself and others
Just for today, I seek gratitude
Just for today, I am kind to all beings

This is a Reiki proverb that really resonates with me. I am not a reiki master, healer or teacher, but I've learned a lot about Reiki in my studies and elsewhere and I feel that in a way we can all be practitioners. Keeping in mind that energy always follows intention. I love knowing that as a body worker, I am not healing or curing someone, but I am allowing for the energy to move through me and spark the healing energy in their body into motion. We can all be a source of healing medicine in this world through our intentions, thoughts, words, actions. I love this proverb, I find it to be a nice reminder. ✨

What can tea teach us???

As for Osha, my darling soul spirit plant, it is a medicinal root that grows here in Colorado in the Rocky Mountains and parts of Mexico. It is often called Bear Root because when the bears come out of hibernation, they dig it up and eat it. It is great for digestion, it is an anti-viral, boosts immunity and is thought to aid in decongestion. The flower looks similar to poison hemlock, so don’t confuse these two plants! It is commonly found only between 8-10,000 feet. There are ethics around foraging for this root, so talk to your local apothecary or plant foraging community before digging it up for your use. I LOVE Osha tea and it can be burned as well as a way to purify your lungs and surroundings.

Ginsing. Ok. So, I just began my Ginsing journey recently and I’m kinda loving it. The reason I started taking Ginsing is because of its antioxidant properties which means it breaks down free-radicals in the body and other “oxidizing agents.” There are hundreds of other people more qualified to explain what that means in a good ol’ science-y way. For ME in my understanding it means, reducing inflammation and aiding in the breakdown and detox of heavy metals.

I learned about the importance and power of ANTIOXIDANTS from Casey Means M.D. Author of “Good Energy” and scientist dedicated to researching about mitochondrial health! Mitochondria= powerhouse of the cell. After listening to her podcast with Andrew Huberman, I realized there were some easy ways to mindfully introduce a little bit more fiber, omega 3, protein and probiotics into my diet as well as antioxidants, hence, the Ginseng.
