Another week, another stolen vehicle recovered. Teamwork and ALPR recently led to the recovery of an another stolen vehicle and the arrest of one suspect for vehicle theft and driving on a suspended license.
The vehicle, which had been reported stolen from a residence in Monterey County, was successfully located and stopped. Thanks to the quick actions and coordination of our officers, the driver was taken into custody without further incident. The vehicle was quickly returned to its rightful owner. CPD’s proactive approach to crime ensures our City remains a safe community.

Bank Robbery Investigation Update
On July 1, 2026, detectives with the Capitola Police Department arrested Frank Medina, 65, of Capitola, in connection with the bank robbery that occurred on June 22, 2026, in the 800 block of Bay Avenue.
Through their follow-up investigation, detectives identified Medina as the suspect, located him, and arrested him without incident for the alleged violations of California Penal Code sections 211 (Robbery), 422(a) (Criminal Threats), and 182(a)(1) (Conspiracy).
The investigation began on June 22, 2026, at approximately 12:43 p.m., when Capitola Police officers responded to a financial institution in the 800 block of Bay Avenue following a report of a robbery.
According to the investigation, Medina entered the business wearing a white and gray bob-style wig, demanded money, and fled the area with an undisclosed amount of currency. No weapon was displayed during the incident, and no injuries were reported.
