📌 What is a Trump Account?
Trump Accounts are a new, tax-advantaged investment account created under federal law that gives every U.S. citizen child born January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2028 a $1,000 seed contribution from the U.S. Treasury.
💰 Why Filing Matters:
To claim the $1,000 federal contribution, a parent or guardian must elect to open a Trump Account for their eligible child. The IRS currently lets you make this election by filing Form 4547 when you file your 2025 taxes.
🧾 Even If You Don’t Normally File:
If you wouldn’t usually need to file a tax return for 2025 (for example, because your income is below the filing thresholds), you may still need to file a return or at least submit Form 4547 so the IRS can record your election and issue the $1,000 seed money on behalf of your child.

The child must be a U.S. citizen

Have a Social Security number

Be born between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2028

And an authorized adult (usually a parent) must make the election on Form 4547 or through the upcoming online portal.

📅 Alternative Enrollment Options:
If you’d prefer not to file with your tax return, there will be an online portal available later (expected summer 2026) where Form 4547 can also be submitted. But filing now with your tax return is the easiest way to ensure you don’t miss the deadline.
