IBM’s First Personal Computer Was Released 43 Years Ago On August 12, 1981

Unveiled at New York’s Waldorf Hotel and priced at $1,565, it had 16 kilobytes of RAM and no disk drive, and it came with two programs — VisiCalc, for producing spreadsheets, and EasyWriter, for word processing. To add a monochrome (green on black), non-graphical display, two diskette drives (180 kb each), and a printer (dot-matrix) cost nearly $3,000 more.
