Jaguar Identification Project - Wetland Reseach Center Inc.
🐆 LEGACY OF A MATRIARCH 🐆
Patricia is one of the most well documented and beloved jaguars ever studied in the Northern Pantanal. She is the official mascot of the Jaguar Identification Project — the jaguar who appears in our stories, in our presentations, and in our hearts.
Through fire, floods, territorial shifts, mating dramas, motherhood, loss, and triumph, Patricia has taught us more about
• jaguar maternal behavior
• cub survival
• tolerance to tourism
• territorial fidelity
• predator–predator interactions
• resilience in changing habitats
than any other individual we have monitored.
Her life captures every joy and heartbreak of jaguar survival: sibling bonds, first hunts, mock charges, fires, floods, infanticide risks, resilience, new territories, lost cubs, and thriving litters.
She embodies everything the Pantanal is — wild, fierce, nurturing, unpredictable, and astonishingly resilient.
For more than a decade, she has carried the story of this landscape on her spotted coat.
And for those who have followed her life closely, Patricia is not just a jaguar.
She is the heart of Jaguar Land, and we carry her with us always.
That is why the Jaguar Identification Project chose to honour Patricia with a statue at the Jaguarland Educational Centre — a lasting tribute to her legacy.
Come and visit us at Jaguarland.
