🚨FANF*CKINGTASTIC NEWS 🚨
Humom here: We haven’t posted a Rye update in a while after an extremely challenging and scary few weeks. It started with getting a new higher concentration of her compounded liquid medicine for Cushing’s. She was responding well to it and a week later we noticed that the medication had separated out and wasn’t mixing back together as it should. And we weren’t sure how long it had been doing that - which would mean she was basically getting doses of cod liver oil with no medication in it for an unknown period.

This happened on a Saturday and we called the office of her internist (which is also an emergency vet hospital) and someone there told us to mix it up manually and dose as usual. The emergency pharmacist said do the same. We did. She ended up 🤮 her second dose. Not good.

She didn’t want to eat anything but a smidgen of Churu even with Cerenia for three days. During which time we were consulting with the internist and pharmacy frantically trying to figure out what to do. They told us to not give her a dose for 24-48 hours until she starts eating again. Fortunately I remembered I had some Mirataz and she started eating again after the first dose of it.

We started giving her capsules of the name brand medicine (Vetoryl which is trilostane) which we were told has better efficacy than the compounded meds we have been giving her. We gave her liquid until we figured out what her maintenance dose should be and it just so happens that the capsules were available at her maintenance dose amount.

The first week after we changed over was a bit scary as she was having a lot of her old pre-treatment behaviors return - fur falling out, screaming for food constantly and eating everything in sight while shrinking, drinking a lot, bad 💩💩💩, low activity. By the second week she suddenly shifted away from all of that - she was playfully instigating wrestling matches with her sisters, we even had a running of the torties which we haven’t seen in probably over a year. Rye even jumped over Fig in playing, TWICE! She stopped napping propped up against her water mug so she could drink from it every time she woke up. (Continued in comments)

We are still here 🧡🖤🧡🖤 Fig did great last week with her dental, only one extraction. The election was a very different story. Gutpunch 💔 trying to plan for how to navigate the dark days ahead, but always, thank goodness for cats. We love you 💕

We just returned home a little early from our camping trip to Maine very late last night 😴 we had a great visit, got to sit by the fire 🔥, watch chipmunks from the canopy 🐿️ look at the beautiful leaves changing 🍁🍂 take a couple of peaceful hikes and sit on some twigs 🪵 and Olive got to visit with her favorite rocks 🪨 by the ocean at in Cape Elizabeth on our way to camping in 🌊🍁 Humom and Fig met someone who was camping with her adventure tortie at the same place (though her tortie wasn’t with her at that moment)!

We came home early for a few reasons. Sunday night into Monday’s weather was looking brutal - heavy rain, wind and temps dropping into the 30s overnight. We had our canopy blow away over the weekend in high winds and even with it weighted down with sandbags, it made us a bit nervous. Not to mention we were planning to leave Tuesday morning and packing wet gear is not fun. But most importantly the torties (and possibly Olive as well) were both having some major 💩💩💩 problems and Fig was also 🩸💩 🙀😿so we wanted to get things taken care of with our regular vet at home rather than go to an emergency vet in Maine. Humom got some probiotics for everyone and our vet said it is most likely acute colitis and probiotics was a good call so we just continue with that and observe if anything changes ❤️‍🩹 they have been happy, cuddly, and acting normal both while on the trip and since we have been home. Now Humom is going to tackle laundry and have a much needed nap 💤🥱😴
