The new federal Medicaid law imposes frequent work reporting and eligibility checks that could cause many eligible Massachusetts residents to lose MassHealth coverage because of administrative hurdles rather than ineligibility. People with behavioral health conditions and other vulnerable populations face the greatest risk, underscoring the need for stronger investments in the behavioral health safety net to help them stay covered.

The latest op-ed from President and CEO Jean Yang highlights why Massachusetts should invest more into its Community Behavioral Health Centers (CBHCs). Massachusetts built these centers to be an open door. There is no wrong number, no wrong door, no wrong reason to ask for help. That commitment should extend to helping the people who depend on us keep the health coverage that makes their care possible. Funding CBHCs to do this work is not a new program. It is the completion of one that is already underway.

We had an amazing time making our voices heard at The Caring Force’s Merrimack Valley Rally last week in Haverhill. Metro Boston self-advocates and members of our Employment Training Center along with staff joined in with other community members to support the human services sector as we advocate for better resources, wages, and funding to continue this important work across the state. 💛
