Harvard MCS
“I was asked to fill in for a year… and that was 18 years ago. I’m still filling in.”
That’s how Prof. David Malan tells the story of how he began teaching Harvard’s most recognized course.
What started with losing a student election, struggling with public speaking, and teaching classmates how to build websites eventually became teaching CS50.

Last week, the Harvard Mignone Center for Career Success (MCS) received the 2026 SUP Supporter Award.
This recognition reflects a long-standing partnership with the Summer Urban Program (SUP) and, more importantly, the work of Harvard College and Phillips Brooks House Association (PBHA) students who step into communities across Boston and Cambridge each summer to lead, mentor, and make a tangible difference.
SUP operates 10 summer day camps serving more than 600 low-income campers and their families, helping address summer learning loss, build social-emotional skills, and cultivate youth leadership.
We are proud to support students committed to public service and grateful to partner with organizations creating lasting impact where it matters most.
As shared by SUP: “MCS is a true model of partnership.”
Today marks the final day of National Student Employment Week
As we close out this week of celebration, we’re highlighting Emily, one of our amazing student assistants at Harvard Mignone Center for Career Success.
A sophomore studying Psychology and Computer Science, Emily supports our marketing and social media efforts while gaining valuable exposure to the many career programs and opportunities available through MCS.
What stands out most to her? The people.
“All the staff members are so welcoming and kind, and I’ve just really enjoyed my experience working at MCS.” — Emily
We’re grateful for the dedication, creativity, and energy our student workers bring to our team every day. Thank you, Emily, and thank you to all student employees who help make our work possible.
