Drop LWOP New England
Behind the walls, looking forward.🌲
I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately, but my heart and mind have been completely full!❤️🔥Tuesday, I had the absolute privilege of spending the afternoon inside the Maine State Prison for men at a beautiful Juneteenth celebration hosted by Foster Bates. 🎉🤝
Being in Maine - which is still the only state in New England without a parole system - made me think deeply about what "freedom" and "equality" actually mean in practice. ⚖️ Delayed justice is a reality we face every day. ⏳
For too long, the word patriotism has been hijacked by a loud group of people trying to freeze our progress in place. But true patriotism isn't about looking backward. It’s about radical accountability!✨It’s about demanding that our modern legal system finally lives up to the aspirational promises of equal protection and human dignity that this country was supposed to stand for from the very beginning. 🇺🇸📜
Demanding avenues for redemption and fighting extreme prison sentences isn't anti-American. 🙅🏼♀️ It is fundamentally, deeply patriotic. ❤️🤍💙
This Juneteenth season, let's celebrate how far we've come, but let's also recommit to the heavy lifting ahead. 💪🏼 Let's keep moving forward together, no matter how hard the fight gets!🕊️
It’s not just about passing a bill; it’s about passing a bill that actually matters. 🏛️
The Connecticut Survivors Justice Act didn't move forward this session, but we aren't walking away with our heads down. We’re walking away with our integrity intact because we refused to put our name on a version of "justice" that was whittled down to nothing. 🚫
Survivors deserve "musts," not just "maybes." To our coalition and everyone who fought with us: thank you. ❤️ We’re taking a moment to rest and regroup, but this story is far from over. 🕯️
