Why do we do gymnastics with our horses? 🐴✨

Gymnastics aren’t just about jumping bigger fences—they’re about creating a stronger, happier, and more confident horse.

By working through poles, grids, and carefully designed exercises, horses learn to:
• Balance themselves instead of relying on the rider.
• Engage their hind end and build strength from behind.
• Improve rhythm, straightness, and coordination.
• Become quicker with their feet and more athletic.
• Gain confidence by solving problems one step at a time.
• Relax their body and mind through repetition and consistency.

For the rider, gymnastics help improve position, timing, patience, and feel. They teach you to trust your horse and allow the exercise to do the teaching instead of trying to micromanage every stride.

The goal isn’t to jump higher—it’s to create a horse that moves correctly, thinks confidently, and enjoys its job. When you build the foundation, everything else becomes easier.

At RJN Stables, gymnastics are one of our favorite tools because every horse, from beginner lesson horses to competitive jumpers, benefits from becoming stronger, more balanced, and more confident.
