California is the 4th largest economy in the world… yet nearly 1 in 3 Californians live at or near the poverty line. I volunteered at a local food bank with MusiCares last week and saw it firsthand. Hardworking families are struggling just to put food on the table. California consistently holds the title of having the highest poverty rate in the US. 5 million Californians were under the CPM poverty line (on average $39,900 yearly for a family of two adults and two children). Child poverty jumped from 9.0% in fall 2021 to 13.8% in early 2023. We need leaders who will fight for working families.
