Montana Tech students prepare for national competition featuring fighting robots In April, six students from the Montana Tech Robotics Club will head to Ohio for the National Robotics Challenge that features a competition with fighting robots.
In Montana Tech's UAS 420 class we learn about PID controllers and system identification. This test was using a ramping algorithm to see how the arm would respond. The potentiometer feeds back the angle. The arduino has a PID controller on it. The computer interfaces with the arduino to both tell it the control signals, and to feed back all of the information. The goal is to get students to understand the details of tuning a PID controller on a real life application.
