Today we celebrate the godmother of the Civil Rights Movement, a visionary leader and unwavering champion for social justice. Dr. Height’s bold advocacy and transformative leadership paved the way for progress that continues to shape our movement today.

In 2026, her words feel more powerful than ever. Let’s honor her birthday by recommitting to the work of justice, uplifting marginalized voices, and driving the change our communities deserve.

Julia Morgan (1872-1957), the first woman licensed as an architect in California, reshaped American architecture with her innovative design and uncompromising vision. Best known for Hearst Castle, she also designed influential YWCA buildings across the West, including Asilomar and the Hollywood Studio Club. Her work opened doors for women in architecture and community design.
