The 2026 IT and engineering hiring landscape isn't slowing - it's sharpening.
Robert Half's latest research forecasts 1.9% growth in net tech employment this year (roughly 128,000 new tech jobs) with salaries projected to climb 8β10%, and premiums of 10β15% for cybersecurity talent. The roles leading the charge:
β’ Cybersecurity engineers
β’ Data scientists & analysts
β’ Cloud and AI/ML engineers
β’ Platform and DevOps specialists
But here's the shift hiring leaders can't ignore: only 7% of tech leaders say they have the capabilities in-house to deliver on their priority projects, and 65% need to upskill their current teams.
Translation: the companies that win in 2026 won't be the ones with the biggest req lists - they'll be the ones with the sharpest sourcing strategy and the most flexible workforce model.
