We’re proud to launch our new series, “Meet the Athlete,” where we highlight members of the running community whose stories inspire, motivate, and connect us all.

Our first feature spotlights Patrick Standen, the Wheelchair Race Liaison for the M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon &Relay (VCM). Since 2003, Patrick has participated in every VCM, and joined the Race Committee in 2011, helping ensure that wheelchair athletes enjoy a safe, seamless, and memorable race day experience.

In our conversation with Patrick, he reflected on the event that set him on this path of competitive hand cycling more than 45 years ago. He also shared how he selects what equipment to use when he competes, and what he will be using at The Parkway Mile next week.

Join us as we learn more about a valued member of the RunVermont community.

This we're looking back at a few news-worthy moments from the Vermont City Marathon and Relay and celebrating a tradition that continues today.

Church Street has been a centerpiece of our race for generations. Long before Instagram posts and finish-line selfies, local newspapers captured the runners, crowds, and energy that turned downtown Burlington into the heart of race weekend.

From past to present, Church Street remains one of many iconic moments of race day.

The M&T Bank Vermont City Marathon and Relay is proof that 26.2 miles can bring people together in incredible ways as both participants and spectators (a real accomplishment in the rain!).

Friends, families, coworkers, classmates, and community groups all come together to share 26.2 miles, making race day a true team effort. We loved seeing so many relay teams out on the course this year, including groups from organizations like Rock Point School, Special Olympics Vermont, WCAX, Girls on the Run Vermont and so many others from across the community.

Congratulations to everyone who took part and helped make the 2026 Vermont City Marathon & Relay memorable.

If you have a story that you would like to share about your relay team, we would love to hear it! Message us or email [email protected]
