The University at Buffalo Libraries invite you to join us for
Knowledge Frontiers: From the Classroom to the Operating Room.
Thursday, March 19th, 2020 from 9:00 am –12:30 pm
University at Buffalo Center for Tomorrow
This informative and inspiring half-day symposium will explore the issues surrounding ethics, virtual and augmented realities, and 3D printing technologies in both traditional and clinical medical education environments.
Breakfast and a snack will be provided. Cost of attendance is $35. Advance registration is required.

Speakers:
- Keynote speaker Maya Georgieva is the Director of Education Futures and XReality Center at the New School in New York City and the co-founder of Digital Bodies, an award-winning website focusing on VR/AR/MR and their impact on media and society. Her talk is titled “XR and Ethics: Living in a World of Abundant Experiences.”
- Mike Springer, Vice President of Technology and Operations for the Jacobs Institute (JI) in Buffalo, NY, oversees all aspects of technology, including engineering, product development, and program management for the i2R, Idea to Reality Center, at the JI. He has helped to establish the JI as a leader in 3D printing of vascular flow models.
- Ken Fujiuchi, Emerging Technology Librarian at the E.H. Butler Library at SUNY Buffalo State College, and Joe Riggie, Head of Information Management at the E.H. Butler Library at SUNY Buffalo State College, will speak about “Libraries in the Age of Extended Reality: Changing the way we think about discovery, access, and preservation of information.”
- Dr. Mojgan Matloob Haghanikar, a physics and astronomy educator at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, is a founder of a start-up called VISTA LINKS SCIENCE LABS (VLS labs). Their aim is to use augmented reality platforms in teaching sciences, engineering, and workforce training. Her presentation is titled, “Cyberlearning with Augmented Reality (AR): Use cases of AR in science and engineering education.”
