I just finished a session with teachers on writing SEL learning targets right alongside academic ones. Every time I do this work, I’m reminded that SEL isn’t a layer we add on top of “real teaching.” It’s the foundation.
Strong Tier 1 instruction isn’t just academic—it’s social AND emotional. When we plan for students’ skills in communication, regulation, collaboration, goal-setting, organization, etc. we’re planning for the humans they’re becoming.
Lil reminder: Kids are actually just human beings, out there trying, learning, and doing their best. Just like you. 😘

Today lit me up.✨ I guess when you put 600 passionate, dedicated, faith-filled educators together, focus on unity, grace, and resilience, and add in a healthy dose of sunshine, it’s bound to feel like magic. 🌞 Grateful to have been a part of it & excited to grow together for the rest of this school year!

First week back for our schools in WNY, and I’m cheering you on!! Back-to-school always feels like a mix of excitement + nerves. My advice? Keep it simple:
🌱 Focus on routines.
🌱 Prioritize relationships.
🌱 Give yourself grace.
The curriculum and the testing and the interventions and all those new initiatives will come, but the connections you’re building this week will carry you all year long. 💛
Teachers — how are YOU starting the year off? Nervous? Excited? Some of both?
