🎥 VOICES OF THE VILLAGE — Meet Kevin Barrett! 🙌🏾

Fresh off our first Volunteer Orientation, we caught up with one of our newest volunteers and what he had to say gave us ALL the chills! ❤️🟨💚

Kevin Barrett is a Baltimore native who now calls Western New York home, and he came to Orientation with a message that hits deep:

"A lot of times people speak of it in past tense, what Juneteenth used to be. But currently, Juneteenth is really kicking. There's a lot of young people coming out and it's impacting our community in a positive way. And if I can do anything to contribute to that just to keep the vibe going, that's what I want to do." 💛

THAT is the spirit of Juneteenth of Buffalo. That is WHY we do this. 🔥

Kevin, thank you for showing up, for seeing the vision, and for choosing to pour into this community. Welcome to the family! 🫶🏾🟥🟨🟩

Video 4 of our Volunteer Interview Series is here and this one brought the WHOLE family! 👨‍👧🔥

LaShawn Chinn showed up to sign up as a volunteer for the 50th Anniversary of the Juneteenth of Buffalo Festival and she didn't come alone, she brought her young teen Zion right along with her! Because that's exactly what this is about. Passing it down. 💛❤️💚

Lashawn said it perfectly:

"It's going to be bigger and better than ever. It's like a big family reunion right here in Buffalo!" 🎉

And she made sure to highlight everything that makes this festival truly for EVERYONE:

🌟 Empowerment Tent for the youth
🎠 Children's area & activities
👴🏾👵🏾 Something special for our elders
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Fun for the entire family of ALL ages

And how did she close it out? Three words that gave us chills:
"It's HIS-story." 🔥
