One day my dream is that humans will deal with their own emotional needs and not use animals as their personal petting zoo to cope with the emotions they haven't resolved themselves. Many humans disregard the energy and body language of dogs and attempt to touch them when the dog isn't offering to be pet. The human will say, "...but I just love dogs." The truth is usually that the human loves the way petting a dog make THEMSELVES feel. If they truly loved dogs, the would take the time to study dog psychology and understand what the energy and body language a dog is showing means. They would be focused on whats best for the dog in front of them not using the dog to feel significance, seen and accepted. They'd realize most dogs do not want to be pet by strangers. They'd realize dogs don't like being pet/nurtured at the wrong times that causes high levels of arousal or anxiety. So many bites and so many issues would be prevented if humans understood this about animals and dogs specifically. One note I want to make, just because a dog comes up to smell you does NOT mean they always want you to pet or touch them.
