Barking Back Rescue

Sweet Bronte and Billie are the last two sisters still waiting for their happily ever after. ❤️
Back in October, we received an urgent plea to help this little family. Their owners had far too many dogs on the property, none fixed, and simply couldn’t afford to care for or feed them all. These babies were only about 2 months old when we got them — tiny, frail, loaded with parasites, and literally withering away.
Thanks to an incredible foster who stepped up without hesitation, they finally got the chance they deserved. Over the next few months, she poured love, care, groceries, meds, and countless hours into getting them healthy and strong. And wow… what a transformation.
When they finally made their way to NY, we honestly expected them to grow much bigger, but these girls stayed perfectly petite. We think they’ll top out around 20–25 lbs full grown — the perfect compact cuddle size. 🥹
Their siblings have all found amazing homes already, and every single family says the same thing: these pups are absolute gems. Sweet, loving, goofy, and just the best little companions.
Now it’s Bronte and Billie’s turn. Let’s find these adorable girls the forever families they’ve been waiting so patiently for. 🐾💕

🐾 National Rescue Dog Day feels like the perfect day to celebrate freedom rides, second chances, and all the dogs who were once “out of time” but made it home anyway.
So in honor of the occasion… here’s Lt. Dan: freshly sprung from death row, zero clue what’s happening, already acting like he owns the place. 💀➡️🏡
Now we want to see YOUR Barking Back rescue babies.
Drop a photo of your pup(s) adopted from us and the date you adopted them below ⬇️
Whether it’s been 2 days or 12 years, we love and remember every one and each deserves a little spotlight today. ❤️🐶

*** FREEDOM RIDE FOR LT. DAN (fka Teddy) 💙🐾 ***
Just 24 hours ago, this sweet 6-month-old puppy was sitting in a shelter, facing euthanasia.
Today? Lieutenant Dan officially walked -- well, hobbled -- out those doors and into his second chance. 🥹
He was neutered this morning and sprung from the shelter shortly after by the amazing Tom Anderson — tail wagging, smiling, and soaking up every bit of freedom like he knew his life had just changed.
For the next day or two, Lt. Dan will be hanging out at Camp Butler with Sinatra’s amazing foster parents while he waits for his flight to his longer-term foster, Deedra, where his next chapter truly begins. ❤️
And even bigger news:
He already has an appointment scheduled Friday with an orthopedic surgeon so we can finally get answers and determine the best path forward for him. Right now, we know there’s a significant difference in cost between attempting surgical repair versus amputation, but one thing is certain — we will always do everything we can to give this boy the absolute best outcome possible and the happiest life ahead.
For anyone who would like to help Lieutenant Dan on his journey, every bit of support truly gives us more ability to pursue the care and options that could make the biggest difference for him. 💙
For now, we’re just celebrating the fact that he’s SAFE.
No more countdown. No more shelter kennel. No more being overlooked.
Welcome to the start of your new life, Lieutenant Dan. ❤️

I’m a pretty private person, but I've waited too long to ask for help.
I’ve been dealing with some ongoing health issues that I can’t ignore any longer, and I need a couple of weeks to focus on appointments and honestly getting some much-needed downtime.
For 14 years, I’ve been nonstop with rescue. We’ve already paused intake, but we still have dogs who really deserve great homes—and right now, I need a mental and physical reset so I can continue doing right by them.
I’m asking for short-term fosters. Even just 2 weeks would make a huge difference. Giving these dogs a more individualized attention will truly help them move forward, and it will give me the space to take care of my health.
We can provide all supplies and support needed—you just provide a safe place to land. Looking for fosters in a 2 to 3hr drive of Middletown NY (unless you're one of our long term people who live further, we would make an exception)
If you can help, please message us or apply here: www.barking-back.org
Please share—this really matters right now.
