Vintage Spotlight: Captured in the Apalachicola, Florida city cemetery around 1982, this photo shows a pecan grafted onto a hickory base, a technique reported to have been done by Dr. Alvin Wentworth Chapman in the late 1800s. The larger pecan top reflects how growth can accumulate above the graft. Dr. A. W. Chapman, a noted botanist, is buried in the same cemetery.
