A proposed project called "Terafab" could bring one of the largest semiconductor manufacturing facilities in the country to Grimes County. Reports indicate billions of dollars in investment, approximately 1,800 new jobs, and major economic growth opportunities for our area.

Supporters believe it could boost local businesses, create jobs, and increase property values. Others have concerns about water usage, traffic, infrastructure, and the impact on our rural community.

On June 3, 2026, the Grimes County Commissioners Court approved:

~ A reinvestment zone designation
~ Property tax incentives
~ Development agreements tied to the project

The vote passed 4-1. Supporters argued the project would dramatically expand the local tax base and create jobs. Critics questioned whether the incentives were too generous.
