When we talk about the history of nursing, Florence Nightingale is often the first name that comes to mind. But did you know that Mary Seacole, a Jamaican-born nurse, was also a trailblazer in healthcare? Despite facing racial discrimination, she independently traveled to the Crimean War (1853-1856) and established the British Hotel, a safe space where she treated wounded soldiers with compassion and holistic healing practices.

🔹 Seacole was skilled in herbal medicine and used natural remedies to treat infections and illnesses.
🔹 She was rejected multiple times by the British War Office but refused to give up, funding her own journey to the battlefield.
🔹 Soldiers affectionately called her "Mother Seacole" because of her unwavering care and dedication.
🔹 In 1857, she wrote an autobiography, "The Wonderful Adventures of Mrs. Seacole in Many Lands", making her one of the first Black women to publish her own story.
