Here’s my song We Did It for the Week 61. The prompt was to write a song about winning. This is a song about winning. I used my Yamaha MT50 four track tape machine to record it. Acoustic Guitar and Vocals on track 1, electric guitar and backup vox on track 2, piano and backup vox on track 3, and cajon on track 4. The sync for the video was tricky for this one, it’s a little rough. The tape machine playback is inconsistent, so none of the videos properly line up with the audio. Part of the magic of the tape machine, part of the misery of the tape machine. I love it so.
The veil between the worlds is so thin I can taste it, and I was called to cover this song by my dear ex-south brooklyn neighbors I first heard The Altogether thanks to their wonderful podcast Let’s Make A Music, which was a true gift to have during those dark days of 2020 and beyond. It reminded me of making music with my friends during those long says we were apart. Their album Silo came out right around then, and it quickly became one of my goto albums for surviving what my life had become. Much as my beloved neighborhood’s streets and Prospect Park were the roots of my physical salvation, this record was one of a few that lead to my emotional and spiritual salvation. This song hit me the hardest of the bunch then, a new world view to match my new eyes. The last few weeks I’ve felt a real change in myself, I’m seeing new leaves on new trees that I’ve been looking at but haven’t seen on these same streets after all these years, everything feels new and beautiful and sacred. Despite the darkness I’m filled with hope and determination that the future is bright and closer than it seems. Stay safe out there friends, we’re going to do this ❤️
Here’s my song for Week 60 of the , This Head Cold. The prompt was to write a song about getting over a cold. Colds suck, and this is a song about that. I’m using my four track tape machine; track 1 for Guitar and Vox, track 2 for bass and backup vox, track 3 for cajon and foot tambourine, and track 4 for banjolele, the first time using that one. My tape machine has a real knack for playing back at the wrong speed, so it’s all weird, it’s so annoying, but it’s also really magical and I love it. Duality! Thanks for listening, hope you aren’t getting over a cold now, but I hope you feel better soon if you are!
