In honor of Men's Mental Health Month I share this clip as a reminder to coaches that our young men are in desperate need of safe spaces to be vulnerable, accountable, and explore emotions.

Coaches often forget that their and energy and coaching style shapes their athletes. Reflect on your approach and your affect (especially in difficult moments).

Balance your energy — aggression isn’t always the answer.

I will never claim to be perfect or always having poise when I am upset. I used to coach aggressively, believing it was serving my athletes best, preparing them for a tough world, and my athletes got used to that.

When I began to trust them and slowed down, I led with balance and they didn’t know how to respond or responding negatively. I taught them to hear me as a commander and not a caring coach. Although they knew I cared, it wasn't shown in a variety of ways. A calm deamenor to them translated as weakness, and that I did not care.

Coaching is about reflection, balance, and awareness of your own ego.
Your coaching style shapes how youth listen, respond, and grow. It also shapes how you listen, respond, and grow. I had to learn that my athletes deserved a coach who could be fluid in her expressions and her teaching.

Coaches, let me know in the comments: How do you balance firmness and support with your athletes?

As 💚 (May) approaches I am truly excited about this conversation.

Lately on social you’ve seen me discuss my personal wellness journey in a very open candid and honest way. My intention is to impart on others the freedom to express themselves fully and unapologetically.

The Just Breath. A Mindfulness Training Coloring & Aciticity Book is a tool designed for children but has been very helpful to me as I have been practicing what I preach and getting to the root of some aspects of my life.

Thank you to and its host Shameek for the warm reception, encouragement, and platform to tell my story.

So many think that positivity is something you are many never realize it’s something you just choose to be. I created because there was a time when I only saw the worst in everything and in everyone including myself. This book allows you reflect, redirect and reframe the way you experience yourself and the world around you simply but checking your thoughts, acknowledging your emotions and being accountable for how you respond.

Start a practice that will teach you how to love yourself when you don’t like yourself and show our youth how to navigate life with grace and grind.

Coaches, stop treating mental health like an emergency.

Mental hygiene for athletes should be daily — not random or reactive.

Too often, mental health is something we address after an outburst, loss, or emotional challenge…
instead of something we integrate every day.

When youth have a mental hygiene system, they don’t have to wait for disappointment to hit. They learn how to navigate adversity — and life.
