Since America’s 200th birthday took place while President Ford was in office, he received many gifts related to the founding of the country.

French President Valery Giscard d’Estaing made a state visit to the White House on May 17, 1976, and presented his nation’s Bicentennial gift to President Ford. France gave the United States an antique 18th-century printing press. It was set up to print copies of the Declaration of Independence.
